Classes

My Harvard classroom teaching experience began in 2009 after I stepped down as Dean of SEAS in 2008.

From 2010 to 2017 I developed new courses at the intersection of Technology and Society for the General Education part of the undergraduate curriculum and also as a Freshman Seminar. At the Kennedy School I created policy courses on science, technology and Innovation in both the energy and cyber areas and in new and emerging technologies. The teaching and research at the Kennedy School resulted in two books: ” Transforming U.S Energy Technology Innovation” with Laura Diaz Anadon and Matthew Bunn and “Cycles of Invention and Discovery; Rethinking the Endless Frontier” with Tolu Odumosu. As Dean of SEAS i articulated the transformation of Engineering Education and the creation of what I called “Renaissance Engineers”- Engineers who understand not only how things work but how the world works. At Santa Barbara I created the Center for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Management. It has now been embedded in cross-university Technology and Management Teaching Program for master’s and PhD students.

Even though I am no longer in active classroom teaching, I continue to advise students in Master’s programs at HKS. Over the years i have given many lectures at HKS’ Executive Education programs on technology, entrepreneurship and policy on science, technology and innovation. I will be to share detailed teaching materials with interested colleagues.
